Have you ever wondered how George Romero came up with the idea for Night of the Living Dead? How did he formulate the idea that would change how Zombies are portrayed in the modern world and, almost overnight, create an entire cult of Zombie fanatics that still persists 50 years after the original movie? Well, and here's the shocking truth, it was kinda by accident. Romero never actually set out to make a great Zombie movie - he just wanted to make a cool horror movie and chose to make the 'villains', Living Dead. In fact, during filming and in the script, these evil, braindead creatures were never actually referred to as Zombies, instead being labelled only as ghouls; the term "Zombie" only coming in once the baying public saw this outstanding creation. So, in effect, you could argue that George Romero did not create the modern Zombie, everyone did, humanity did, it just sprung out of the collective human consciousness at the time and Romero just nurtured it; fleshing out its true awesome power in later films - "Godfather of the Dead" indeed. Anyhow, in this wonderful short film which expertly captures the feel of the 1968 movie that inspired it, a possible source of Romero's inspiration is given.
