It has been ten years since we last tuned in to the world of Zombieland and things have changed. Zombies still control the land but now they can be categorised into three different types, and a fourth - a particularly deadly fourth - is about to rear its ugly, putrefying head. Meanwhile, our four heroes - Columbus, Wichita, Tallahassee and Little Rock - have moved into the American heartland of Washington DC. Things are going relatively well for their 4-way dysfunctional family but, when new survivors turn up, events take a turn for the worse.
Zombieland: Double Tap is a really easy movie to review; if you loved Zombieland, you love this one. It really is very similar in tone and overall plot with laugh out loud comedy taking centre stage. The only real new idea is the four types of Zombies that now exist in the world - it does seem a bit underused; being introduced at the start of the film and only referenced one or two times later but, it is funny and not overly goofy which is basically the whole mantra of the movie. The acting of the original four, while unfaultable in Zombieland, is blown out-of-the-park now, all the actors having gained tremendous experience working on major films. Even the acting of the newcomers is very good - no one letting the team down. My only two minor criticisms are that the story is perhaps too close to the original - something standout new would have been nice to see - and there is absolutely no mention of Tallahassee's twinkie fetish; there are plenty of nods to the original film but this one would have really made a quality moment. In any case, I recommend this movie - hands down the best Zombie movie of 2019!
