The world has been overcome by a devastating virus called VM2, turning all who contract it into flesh-hungry Zombies within minutes of infection. The virus rages on for six months; 90 percent of the human population has turned into rabid horrors or been killed in the rush for safety, society has crumbled and the only remaining hope for the uninfected is a rumoured safe-haven on the island of Catalina. Fearing the end, a group of survivors make a desperate cross-country journey to this promised sanctuary.
Zombie Apocalypse is a bare-bones, "pull no punches" Zombie movie - survivors cross a Zombie infested city to reach supposed safety. There are some curve balls thrown in such as shambling and running Zombies, animals being infected by the Zombie virus, even one big-boss Zombie that won't go down as easily as the others. However, any new ideas or hinted plots are quickly brushed over for the sake of generic survival action. The acting shares the same humdrum nature as the story - it is okay but nothing special. The exception to this is, strangely, the Zombies themselves. The survivors talk about the difference between the slow, "old" Zombies and the newly infected, fast Zombies that can run. However, the actors playing the Zombies, more often than not, all skip after the survivors whenever they see them, creating an awkward fast-movement while not actually running - it looks unnatural and soul-destroyingly comical as "the skipping dead" chase the living through the city.
