DESCRIPTION:

A couple going through a rough patch in their relationship decide to take a vacation to a remote countryside village to save their failing marriage. Unfortunately, proceedings turn to unbridled chaos when Zombies assault the house they are staying in.

MY VERDICT:

See that brutally short description up there? Well, I actually really struggled to write it because, although I wanted to write more and "big up" this cinematical Zombie outing with fleshed out details, there is no more to it - as movie plots go, Before Dawn is disturbingly uninspired. It's strange, the movie opens quite well with a fairly tense period of seemingly uninhabited rural buildings, the occasional blood-splatter, half-glimpsed Zombies in the distance and a good 'mysterious sound' anticipation moment. However, when the action does start, the film has a bit of an identity crisis; unknowing if it wants to go down the full action route, stay as a tense drama or get the gags flowing with some comedic hijinks. By the end of the fairly short film, the producer seems to give up on the movie altogether, giving an ending that is abrupt, pointless and does not make much sense. The screaming contest between the male Zombie and female Zombie in the closing scene is funny to watch but this film is, in conclusion, a jumbled mess with few redeeming features.
