Happy Halloween Zed fans! Some of you inquisitive types may be wondering why I have started something called a "dev diary" - after all, I'm not a game developer. Well, my pus-filled pretties, I can now, as a Halloween treat (or is it a trick), announce that I, ZombieTom, owner of The Dead Times and fulltime Zomb-a-holic, am going to "make" a game. Or try to…
I've actually made two small games before, none commercially available, so this is not really a leap into the unknown. I have, however, not done any game development for a good few years now - opting to create and run this diabolically fiendish website instead. So why the sudden change of heart? Two reasons. Chiefly, I have the time and impetus to do it. The current job I have, while perfectly fine, is not really what I see myself doing until the Zombies rise. Secondly, I have an idea that I think needs to happen, needs to grow into some hellish amalgamation of reality. Basically, Zombies are going to play a major part in this game and now that I have written, and keep writing for The Dead Times, I think I know more about the ravenous undead than I did a few years ago. That is another reason for me wanting to develop a game I guess - the game industry just has, excluding the groovtastic kickstarted indie game, 7 Days to Die, not given us true Zombies yet. Yes, some of you will, understandably, be screaming that the gaming world is overflowing with Zombie "nonsense". I agree with that and totally see where you are coming from. Plants vs. Zombies, Dead Rising, Resident Evil, Dead Space, Dead Island, Call of Duty and even Half-Life, to name but a few, all feature Zombies or Zombie-like creatures. However, these are, none of them, what I would call a "real" Zombie - and I hope to eventually write an article on the, perhaps surprising, characteristics of a "real" Zombie.
That's it for now - progress is painfully slow on the game which is currently still in the languishing in the design stage. My day job, my tireless love of playing computer games, the drive to write about walking dead people (I am determined to keep The Dead Times updated on a "regular as possible" basis) and other fairly important stuff like eating and sleeping are all factors in this tardiness. Due to this, and because of my own fiendish intentions, I don't want to give too much away too early, keeping the juiciest morsels away from the gnashing intellectual jaws of those who are curious. However, I will be releasing more info in a, irregular, drip feed. Stay tuned for the next instalment of Dev Diary of the Dead.
Dev Diary of the Dead
As the journey begins on my latest adventure, I state my eventual destination and muse on the reasons for embarking on it in the first place. Oh, and being Halloween, a fitting jumping of point for a new event series, I wish all my humble readers a spookily good time.
