THE DEAD TIMES

DEAD ARE COMING...

Going forward

As the dead continue to bash rotted hands against my safehouse door, I've noticed an alarming fact - the noise, the frequency of the fighting sounds of wood bending and buffeting… is increasing. And, yes, I have confirmed the terrible news - though, perhaps, I should not be surprised. From the roof of this undead command centre, forged from abandoned rubbish, discarded wood and gasless vehicles, I have seen the wandering dead steadily increasing in number. Who knows - or cares - from where they come, drawn here by some unseen force or blindly following each other in futile movements, not knowing that the one they follow is, instead, following them. The only thing for it is to, as cliché as it may sound, "thin the herd" - to pick of one by one until only a few redundant ghouls remain. Arrows, the few bullets I scrounged, a slingshot and rocks - these will be my weapons for now. With luck, nay, mere perseverance, the weapons will last and my objective will be reached. Should this place fall however, there are other safehouses I constructed - fortified against the dead (and the living) - waiting, idly, for my arrival.

Slipping out of character for the time being, this is just a quick update to give you wonderful people some insight into my plans for the future - both this year and the next. As most people will know by now - and if you don't, you're about to - I started work on my very own game last year with the working title of Project Rome. At the time, I had no official job so could work on it pretty much fulltime, only taking breaks to prepare fiendish new content for The Dead Times. However, I know have a 5-days a week job as a Games Tester and it's pretty full-on, with the release date for the game we are working on, looming ever closer, frighteningly so. Work, The Dead Times, Life rubbish and Gaming does not leave that much time for game development so I have taken the decision, starting from when this article goes live, to only produce new content for The Dead Times every two weeks, replacing the weekly structure I have going at the moment. If this makes you annoyed, filling you with unbridled rage, take a breath and type a comment below - try not to be too offensive as it's the living dead which have no emotion, not me (even though it may be hard to tell at times).

In brighter news I do have ideas for how I'd like this phantasmagorical community to grow in 2018.

  1. I'd really like to get into Zombie lit ie. I'd love to write some Zombie fiction tales - short stories ideally. I've read enough Zombie fiction by now to collect and form some good ideas - it's, as always, getting the time to think them up, plan them, write them, redraft them and so on, that is the inconvenient starting block. As a first attempt, I was thinking something along the lines of Space Beast, that banned mythical book written by prisoner Robert Morse after the events of Alien 3.
  2. I'd also, going forward, whether it be this year or next, be thrilled to get a YouTUBE channel up and running - not a regular thing, just a spin-off from the main site to dip into now-and-again. It probably would not have a specific topic such as Alien Theory or Residence of Evil but - rest assured - it'll centre around Zombies.
  3. Lastly, and most obviously, I'll be continuing work on Project Rome, and, in turn, the Dev Diary of the Dead. Who knows, as the game progresses more and more, I may even do some developer video logs, putting them up on YouTUBE. I have a tentative plan to run a Kickstarter campaign for the game in May 2020; I really want to have a lot of the work done before any money goes into it, at least enough for a playable, enjoyable demo at any rate.

So there you have it, the plan for the next few years of The Dead Times. As always though, I'm open to other people's opinions so if you have any comments/criticisms/complaints/declarations of love, please, do not hesitate to post them in the comments section below.
