DEAD ARE COMING...

The Keeper's Diary: A Biohazard Story

The Indiegogo campaign for The Keeper's Diary: A Biohazard Story is now live after weeks of waiting (click here to open in a new tab) and, since the Resident Evil games are such a massive part of my love of Zombies (Resident Evil being known as Biohazard in it's home country of Japan), it is my duty to cover it.

What is it?

The Keeper's Diary: A Biohazard Story is (or will be, assuming enough funds are gathered) a live-action, short-film adaption of a section of the game Resident Evil. The section of the game being adapted is the bit where you discover the diary of the Umbrella employee known only as "The Keeper". The Keeper, stationed at the infamous Spencer Mansion, was charged with the housing and care of creatures used in the T-virus experiments. He was exposed to and infected by the T-virus intentionally (though he believed it to be an accident) and kept a record of his slow deterioration into Zombie-hood from May 9th 1998 to June 4th. In the first days of his infection, due to his lack of mental clarity, The Keeper forgot to feed the Cerberus creatures (Dobermans infected with the T-Virus), leading many of them to escape into the surrounding Arklay mountains, ultimately triggering the entire Zombie and B. O. W. (Bio-Weapon) outbreak. On May 20th, The Keeper's transformation reached its true beginning as he committed his first murder - an Umbrella Security Service employee named Scott - because, as the diary states, the other man had an "ugly face". The Keeper proceeded to eat the corpse; a chilling "tasty" response in the diary confirming this ungodly act. The diary ends with the memorably bleak phrase, communicating with stark brutality that The Keeper has completely succumbed to the T-virus, his humanity entirely gone; "Itchy. Tasty.".

Why should I get involved?

  • The team behind The Keeper's Diary: A Biohazard Story has already produced a high-quality teaser trailer for their proposed short film.
  • The actor who played Chris Redfield in the original 1996 games FMV cutscenes is playing The Keeper in the short film.
  • The developers have already created two professional-looking short films in the Resident Evil universe and held a videoed reunion of some of the cast from the original game's cutscenes.
  • The voice actor behind the incredible Resident Evil title screens (including the recently released Resident Evil: Death Island CG movie) is onboard to give the fan film a layer of authenticity.
  • It's Resident Evil content made by diehard fans of the Resident Evil franchise, including the talented folks behind the Residence of Evil and Biohazard Declassified YouTube channels, and that can only be a good thing.
  • It has got at least one Zombie in it - that is enough for me!
